Vintage Gale small-displacement engines rely entirely on oil mixed into the gasoline for crankshaft and cylinder lubrication. For the Model 3D18, a 24:1 fuel-to-oil ratio is standard for safe operation (1/3 pint or approx. 5.3 oz of high-quality TC-W3 marine two-stroke oil per 1 gallon of gas). Always use ethanol-free 87-octane gasoline whenever possible; ethanol absorbs water and deteriorates vintage rubber fuel lines, cork floats, and carburetor seals.

Ignition System Service:
The built-in flywheel magneto system on these motors is simple and reliable, but aging components often require attention during restoration.
