2-Stroke Fuel/Oil Mixture:
Unlike modern outboards that run on lean 50:1 ratios, vintage Gale small-displacement powerheads rely heavily on bronze sleeve bushings rather than full needle bearings. You must run a 24:1 fuel-to-oil mix (approximately 1/2 pint or 8 oz of quality TC-W3 two-stroke oil per 1.5 gallons of gasoline). Always use ethanol-free 87-octane gasoline where available, as ethanol breaks down vintage rubber fuel lines, carburetor packing, and cork floats.

Ignition System Service:
The flywheel magneto system is simple and robust, but age takes its toll on the internal components. Inspect the ignition coils under the flywheel for cracking in the plastic insulation—a common point of failure for OMC components of this era.
