2-Stroke Fuel/Oil Mix Ratio:
Do not use modern 50:1 pre-mix ratios on these vintage motors. Given the internal bearing designs of mid-century outboards, run a 24:1 gas-to-oil mixture (approx. 2/3 cup or 5.3 oz of TC-W3 rated 2-stroke oil per gallon of gasoline). Always opt for non-ethanol regular gasoline whenever possible, as ethanol breaks down legacy rubber fuel lines, cork floats, and internal gaskets.
Ignition System Service:
The flywheel magneto ignition is straightforward to service. If you experience weak or intermittent spark, remove the flywheel to clean and adjust the contact breaker points (typically gapped to .020″). Inspect the coils for cracking, a common issue with aged original OMC components. Modern replacement coils and condensers are widely available and relatively easy to retrofit.
Cooling System Care:
The cooling system utilizes a positive displacement synthetic rubber rotor impeller. Never run the motor out of water, even briefly, as dry running will tear the rubber blades apart instantly.
