1. Fuel-to-Oil Ratio Mix
Unlike modern outboards that run thin fuel mixtures, vintage 2-stroke motors rely heavily on fuel-borne oil to lubricate internal bronze bushings and bearings.
For the Gale 12D17, run a 24:1 fuel-to-oil ratio using modern TC-W3 marine two-stroke oil mixed with standard unleaded gasoline (preferably ethanol-free). That breaks down to 1 quart (32 oz) of TC-W3 oil per 6-gallon tank of gas. Avoid running leaner mixes (such as 50:1) unless the powerhead has been completely rebuilt with updated needle bearings throughout.

2. Ignition System Overhaul
